Marine Biology Boot Camp

Ever wanted to be a marine biologist? Have a great sense of adventure? Join us as we learn about marine species from plankton to seals, squid to sharks, and everything in between! We'll try out different techniques to catch fish, snorkel the harbor to discover and identify fish and invertebrate species, kayak in local estuaries and harbors to learn about eel grass ecosystems, and learn about physical oceanography from a sailboat. In addition, we will study invertebrate and fish anatomy through dissections, firsthand observations, and visits to our aquarium.
 

Please note: Participants must be able to demonstrate strong swimming skills in order to snorkel.

Join us as we catch dragonflies, find snakes, stalk turtles, and study frogs in a mission to explore the complex interactions between animals, plants and insects on Nantucket. Each day will be packed with exploration of conservation land, science-based learning, and exposure to real research. Learn how to catch dragonflies with dip nets, identify and safely handle the 6 species of snakes on Nantucket, meet our live reptile ambassadors, and participate in field research conducted by MMA scientists. We will also complete our own scientific project to be displayed in the Natural Science Museum. This is the first step to becoming a conservation biologist!
