Full Day Camp Programs:
Island Intrepids

Calling wilderness explorers! Get your boots, nets, and binoculars ready! Join us as we explore the terrestrial (land) ecosystems of Nantucket. We will wade through marshes, survey mudflats, explore fields and forests all while searching for the frogs, turtles, snakes, birds, and insects that inhabit them! Learn what makes these ecosystems unique through hands-on activities, games, and guided investigations.

Animals & Art

Join the Maria Mitchell Association and the Artists Association of Nantucket for a week of discovery and creative expression! Nature and art come together as we explore Nantucket’s beautiful and diverse ecosystems and then create art projects based on our observations. Students will learn how to use various media such as charcoal, paint, paper mache, and clay. Part of the day is spent in outdoor exploration and games and the other part is spent in the studio creating art!

Underwater Explorations

What better way to experience Nantucket than underwater? Nantucket is known for its ocean, harbor, beach, and dune ecosystems! We’ll explore these aquatic habitats (and discover the animals that live there), learn about marine biology, and go snorkeling, fishing, beach combing, and more. We’ll also use dip nets, seine nets, and fish traps to catch even more underwater species. Please note: Participants must be able to demonstrate strong swimming skills in order to join the snorkeling portion of the activities.

Beach Blitz

Have you ever wanted to know what animals make the beach their home? Come join this summer camp program to explore the beaches, dunes, and shallow waters of one of Nantucket’s largest ecosystems. We will use science-based activities to learn how beach inhabitants survive in these tough environments and why these animals are extremely important to the health of our oceans.

Wild Survival
(Monday – Friday): 8:50 – 1:00pm

Do you think you could survive if you were alone in the wilderness? Come learn survival techniques such as how to read a map and compass, make rope from wild plants, forage for edible plants, and build a shelter using nothing but the natural items around you. You will find out about the basics of tracking deer, rabbits, mice, hawks, insects and more as we study their behaviors and discover the clues they leave behind.
