Hawk Mountain Trip 2009

Plan now to join Dr. Bob Kennedy and the Maria Mitchell Association for a four-day venture to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton, Pennsylvania for the bi-annual Raptor Migration in late September.

What is it?

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is one of the best places the northeastern United States to watch the annual hawk migration, one of nature's greatest wildlife spectacles. Between August 15 and December 15, an average 20,000 hawks, eagles and falcons pass the Sanctuary's North Lookout and are identified and counted. Counts have been conducted continuously since the Sanctuary was founded in 1934, except for a three-year hiatus during World War II. The cumulative 71-year count represents the world's longest record of raptor populations, providing valuable information on changes in raptor numbers in northeastern North America.

Where does the trip depart?

The trip will depart on Sunday, September 20 and return on Wednesday, September 23.  Participants will spend two full-days in the Sanctuary observing, counting and learning about raptors.

What's the cost, and what does the cost include?

The $400 cost includes transportation from Hyannis to Kempton, double accommodations/breakfast at the Hawthorn Suites for two nights, and admission to the Sanctuary. Single supplements are $120.00 Lunch, dinner and hotel gratuities are not included in the cost. You can reserve your seat on the caravan now with a non-refundable deposit of $100/person.  Deadline for reservations is August 14th, 2009 and remaining balance is due on September 11, 2009. Don't wait! This MMA Adventure is sure to be a sell-out. For more information, or to reserve your spot, please contact Dr. Bob Kennedy at (508) 228-1782.
